Cambridge Halloween Events and Activities

halloweenpt3In Part 3 of our 2009 Cambridge Halloween Planning Guide we are giving you some ideas of events and activities to consider in the Cambridge Area.  Halloween activities abound in Massachusetts and New England.  You have to remember that Salem, Massachusetts is considered the epicenter of Halloween.  You don’t have to go up to Salem to have Halloween fun though.

As this is the last week leading into the traditional trick or treating on Saturday there are many activities going on for the kids.  The City of Cambridge has put together a list of Kids Halloween activities that are taking place in the Schools, Youth Centers and Library.  Even the Fire Department and Police Department are having open houses.  Costume Parties, pumpkin painting and decorating, magicians and haunted houses are some of the activities that are taking place.  You can find a full list that you can print out here.

For the older crowd you may want to consider skipping on Halloween altogether.  The Cambridge Marriott in Kendall Square is offering a one night package for Halloween that it is calling their “No Tricks, All Treats” package(sadly this is not being offered in 2012).  As of this writing it is still available.  I can definitely see some people not wanting to deal with the Halloween madness especially as you get older.  I know on our street the older folks without kids are not always home.  Could it be they’re at a hotel somewhere?

If you’re looking for parties you can always check out your favorite Cambridge restaurant, bar or nightclub. Upstairs on the Square for example,  holds an annual Halloween party.

The Harvard Square Association holds it’s “Harvard Scare” party which consists of:

Join us for a Go Green Walk Ride Friday and HARVARD SCARE square wide-party! Magicians and Mimes will take over the streets of Harvard SCARE in preparation for a costume parade for children and an all ages “Monster Mash” block party.  Arrive dressed to thrill and enjoy an evening of entertainment and costume contests, thrills, chills, prizes and surprises!

Date: Friday, October 30th
Time: 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Location:  Au Bon Pain Plaza at 1350 Mass. Avenue, and throughout Harvard Square!

If you need more information you may need to call since there does not seem to be much more information on the website yet.

Lastly if you are into Horror movies the Brattle Theatre is showing Trick “r Treat and Evil Dead 2.  If you are more of a Charlie Brown fan they are also bringing you a free screening of “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”.

If those ideas don’t get you fired up you can always check out the Salem, Massachusetts Halloween Activities!
