Cambridge Halloween Events and Activities 2010
In Part 2 of this year’s Cambridge Halloween Planning Guide we offered tips on how to throw your own Halloween Party. In Part 3 we discuss what to do on Halloween Weekend if you are not throwing your own party. Halloween events and activities in the Cambridge area are plentiful but sometimes you may need to look hard.
Last year we discussed how the City of Cambridge had come up with a great list of Halloween Events and Activities available through Community Schools, Youth Centers, Libraries and other departments from the City. This was a great list and so far it has not been updated(at least as far as we can see). The list can still be useful though since if you see an event you would be interested in odds are they are putting it on again this year. I would call to see what the dates and times are in 2010.
Another family friendly annual Halloween event to consider is the Harvard Square Business Association’s Harvard Scare. It is a costume parade and block party that takes place usually on the Friday of Halloween weekend. The website has yet to provide information on this so check back on their website or give them a call to find details of the 2010 Harvard Scare.
New to our list this year is a fundraiser sponsored by Asgard and New England Comics. They are putting on a Superhero 5K race to benefit On The Rise a Cambridge based non-profit that works with homeless women. Registration is still open as of this writing. You will get a chance to dress up in your Super Hero costumes of course. Spectators will enjoy what will seem like a Halloween Superhero Parade with much of the course being on Mass Ave . The race takes place on October 31st in Central Square. Details can be found here.
If you are a Harry Potter fan (and who isn’t) Harvard’s Museum of Natural History is having two programs on Halloween Weekend. The first is Hogwarts at the HMNH where you can dress up as your favorite Harry Potter character and participate in activities themed around the books. The second is the Harry Potter Scavenger Hunt that is actually a month long program starting on October 30th and going to November 28th.
For those more into adult Halloween activities you can consider the following Halloween Events in Cambridge:
Upstairs on the Square Annual Halloween Party on October 31
Brattle Theatre Tribute to Sam Raimi Movies Friday October 31 thru Sunday October 31, this of course includes a showing of the Evil Dead 2 (as a side note The Brattle Theatre is also having their more family friendly It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown showing at 2pm on Halloween Day, this is actually a free showing).
Gorefest 8: Cirque du Slaughte at the ImprovBoston in Central Square. This is actually a musical comedy and it is showing from October 21 to October 31.
The Middle East Halloween Club Night and Costume Contest is taking place this upcoming Wednesday October 27.
Cambridge Brewing Company’s Great Pumpkin Festival Saturday October 30th. This event combines costumes and pumpkin brews and ales.
So as you can see there is plenty to do in Cambridge. Enjoy Halloween and stay safe!
