Oktoberfest A La Harvard Square
When most people think of Oktoberfest they think of beer and oh yeah that festival in Germany. In Cambridge we think of the Annual Oktoberfest and Honk! Festival Parade. For the 31st year the Harvard Square Business Association is putting on a show that starts off with a marching band parade. The marching bands are not your typical marching bands from high schools or colleges but more like festival type performers like The Loyd Family Players, Rude Mechanical Orchestra, Hungry March Band, and MarchFourth Marching Band that were highlighted in a Youtube video from last year’s Harvard Square Oktoberfest.
The event will also include an interesting charity piece with hot air balloon rides in Cambridge Common where the proceeds will go towards charity. The neat part is that it is sponsored by ReMax the realestate company with the hot air balloons in their commercials.
Of course no Oktoberfest event could be complete without authentic Oktoberfest food. With 50 International Food vendors there will sure be something to please your palate. If you have kids there are also rides and activities on Church Street. More detailed info can be found here.
This is a free event and the weather looks as though it will be nice this Saturday. The long weekend due to Columbus Day I am sure will bring more folks out for this local event.
Here is the video I found from last year to give you a flavor of the bands:
