Cambridge Carnival 2010 This Sunday

cambridgecarnival2010The Cambridge Carnival otherwise known as the Cambridge Caribbean Carnival is back for another year.  The annual event takes place this Sunday from 12pm to 7pm with both a parade, live music and kidsfest area at the Kendall Square Carnival site.  If you haven’t had a chance to attend before think of a Mardi Gras type of event.

One of Cambridge’s greatest strengths is it’s multicultural environment that exposes us all to music, food and entertainment from various cultures all over the world.  The Cambridge Carnival highlights the colorful and vibrant Caribbean community that shines through the creativity of the costumes from the parade participants.

18 years strong the Carnival has attracted spectators from all over with many driving or even flying in to view and/or participate in this event.   This free event is a great way to expose children to different cultures as well.  This year my focus is going to be on the parade and KidFest activities since I will have my children with me.

For my own purposes I put together a map of the parade as laid out by the Cambridge Carnival website.  That way I can decide where to best see the parade from.  The streets can be tied up during the parade so public transportation will be an easier and less expensive option to getting to the part of Cambridge you want to go to.  The Central Square and Kendall Square T stops are sure to be hopping.

Here is the map I put together on Google Maps.  Since I am a visual person it definitely helped me and if you are new to the Cambridge area as many students can be this should help to orient you.
